About IPHP

What Is the IPHP?

The IPHP was established in 1996 in response to a need within the medical community for ongoing support for physicians struggling with impairment issues. This program is designed to offer support to physicians who self-report problems with mental health issues, physical disability, or drug and alcohol problems.

Who Serves on the Iowa Physician Health Committee (IPHC)?

The IPHC is composed of a group of individuals who believe physicians should be afforded the opportunity to address their impairment issues in a proactive manner with the support and oversight of the IPHC. The IPHC is required to have members with the following qualifications:

  • A psychiatrist;
  • A physician who has successfully completed a recovery program;
  • A practitioner with expertise in the area of substance abuse and addiction treatment;
  • A public member; and
  • The executive director or a designee

Currently serving on the committee are:

  • Kent Croskey, D.O., Chair, anesthesiologist from Des Moines;
  • Peter Wolfe, M.D., family practitioner from Ames;
  • Joyce Vista-Wayne, M.D., psychiatrist from Ottumwa;
  • Jerome Greenfield, M.D., psychiatrist from Des Moines;
  • Mary Conway, BLS, CADC, substance abuse professional from Emmetsburg;
  • Kirk Bragg, LISW, from Des Moines;
  • Diane O'Connor, BA, public member from Fort Dodge;
  • Ann Mowery, PhD, executive director
